Commercialize the 3-terminal multilayer ceramic capacitor with an ultra-large electrostatic capacitance of 4.3µF in the 1005M size for automotive use
Murata Manufacturing Co., Ltd. has developed the "NFM15HC435D0E3", a 4.3µF high-capacitance 3-terminal multilayer ceramic capacitor (MLCC) with an automotive-grade 1005M (1.0×0.5mm) size, and has begun mass production.
In recent years, with the increasing performance and multi-functionality of automobiles, such as ADAS (Advanced Driver-Assistance Systems) and autonomous driving, the number of sensors and processors equipped in automobiles has been steadily increasing, as has the number of MLCCs required for their operation.
This trend is expected to intensify further in the future. To reduce mounting area and improve reliability, there is a growing demand for miniaturization, increased capacitance, and lower ESL to improve high-frequency characteristics. (1) to improve high-frequency characteristics.

(1)ESL (Equivalent Series Inductance): Equivalent series inductance. Generally, ESL is considered one of the factors that deteriorates capacitor performance; the lower its value, the better the capacitor's characteristics.
The currently noteworthy 3-terminal MLCCs have lower ESL than typical 2-terminal MLCCs, enabling lower high-frequency impedance with fewer components.
Due to this characteristic, it is mainly used in automobiles equipped with ADAS, and its usage is steadily increasing. ADAS uses high-speed processors and requires miniaturization and high density.
By using our unique thin-layer forming technology and high-precision lamination technology, which finely particle and homogenize ceramic and electrode materials, we have achieved an ultra-high capacitance of 4.3µF in a 1005M size, 3-terminal automotive capacitor. This capacitance is 4.3 times that of our conventional products, contributing to further miniaturization and high-density mounting of in-vehicle equipment.
Going forward, we will continue to expand our product lineup to meet market demands and contribute to the enhanced performance and multi-functionality of automobiles. In addition, we will contribute to reducing environmental burden by miniaturizing capacitors to reduce the use of parts and materials, and lowering power consumption at our factories.
